12min.med – Life Sciences: Ignite Talks

In conjunction with Hannover’s business development enterprise hannoverimpuls and the ‘neuwärts’ agency, the REBIRTH Cluster of Excellence will be holding a new series of talks. The format is brief, with events featuring three speakers from the world of medicine. Each of them has 12 minutes to present their project, followed by 12 minutes for questions from the audience and then another 12 minutes of networking over a drink. The audience will be a good mix, from specialists to passers-by just dropping in. Events will be held on a roughly quarterly basis, with the chief aim of raising the general public’s scientific awareness.

12min.med – Life Sciences #3: 31 August 2017, 7.00 p.m.

In the third edition of ‘12min.MED - Life Science’ Rima Rifai of the company SmartSense will be illuminating how smartphones can be used for labatory diagnostics. REBIRTH’s PD Dr. Nico Lachmann of the Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover will be reporting on how he produces blood from stem cells. And Professor Josef. H. Fangmann of the Klinikum Region Hannover will present technical innovations for liver surgery. For further information (in German) click here.

12min.med - Life Sciences #2: 30 March 2017, 7.00 p.m.

The long-awaited sequel is here! The second edition of ‘12min.MED - Life Science’ will be held this Thursday, 30 March at 7.00 p.m. The venue: Transformationswerk, Vahrenwalder Str. 269 in Hannover. The REBIRTH Cluster of Excellence, agency ‘neuwaerts’ and the city’s business development enterprise hannoverimpuls will be staging three stimulating talks. Do come along!
This time, Professor Alexander Heisterkamp of Laser Zentrum Hannover e. V. will be illuminating how optogenetics uses light to remote-controls cells. REBIRTH's Dr Norman Zinne of Hannover Medical School (MHH) will be reporting on how he handles and treats organs outside the body using the Organ Care System. And Stefan Meyer of Implandata Ophthlmic Products GmbH will explain how his start-up is designing an implantable, telemetric sensor enabling patients to precisely measure their intraocular pressure themselves at home, any time. How do you mend a broken heart? How can molecular biology, scalpels and scanners help to solve crimes? And what exactly is biohacking? These and other questions will be answered by a trio of experts: REBIRTH's Dr Zweigerdt of MHH’s Department of Cardiothoracic, Transplantation and Vascular Surgery; Professor Klintschar of MHH’s Institute of Forensic Medicine; and Dr Kramer of Digiwell.
